Hip Pain.
Approximately 14% of the general population report report experiencing hip pain. Athletes also experience hip pain with 25% reporting having lost playing time due to injury.
Hip pain can have a variety of causes, often presenting with overlapping symptoms in terms of the location, intensity and duration. Hip pain can also originate in other areas of the body, particularly the lower back and sacroiliac joint. This can make hip problems a challenge to diagnose. The best evidence currently categorises the diagnosis into issue’s with in the hip joint itself (intra-articular) or issues stemming from muscles, tendons or nerves surrounding the hip(extra-articular).
