Dry Needling
Dry needling is a fast and effective treatment than can quickly relieve pain and enhance recovery.
Dry needling uses very thin needles that the majority of patients do not feel enter the skin. The needles are used to target specific spots in muscles often referred to a ‘trigger points’.
The patient may then experience what is called a ‘twitch response’' which is brief contraction or cramping sensation in the muscle. The aim of the treatment is to illicit this response as this is often followed by pain relief and muscle relaxation.
How does dry needling help:
It stimulates the muscle to produce a reflexive relaxation.
Encourages blood flow to the area.
Increases communication / awareness of the targeted area in the central nervous system.
Your individual practitioner will discuss if dry needling may be a suitable treatment for you as part of your overall treatment plan.
